Release Notes - Papers for Windows 1.1.6

Overview of the Changes

This update of Papers for Windows brings the long awaited highlighting and annotation capabilities to Papers for Windows. It also brings a large number other fixes, improvements and performance enhancements.

New Features

  • Added support for notes and highlighting on PDF files.
  • Introducing over 1300 new CSL styles for all Springer journals.

  • Fixed an issue where Papers for Windows would cause database inconsistencies with Papers for Mac.
  • Fixed an issue where fast typing would make the citations search box skip characters
  • Fixed an issue where PDFs stored on network drives would not link work properly
  • Fixed an issue where Papers would freeze upon closing a tab.
  • Fixed an issue where notes were not being saved in the inspector.
  • Fixed an issue where keywords were not being saved.
  • Fixed an issue where times were not properly displayed in certain time zones.
  • Fixed an issue with deleting a paper that is opened in a tab.
  • Fixed an issue where spaces would go missing between words after selecting, copying and pasting text.
  • Fixed an issue where the PDF preview would flicker.
  • Fixed an issue where the PDF would not be downloaded from certain websites.
  • Fixed an issue where an author could not be deleted if it had a period after its name.
  • Fixed an issue where the program would hang after matching.
  • Fixed an issue where the program would hang after moving a trashed article back.
  • Fixed an issue where Internet Explorer 10 would cause Papers to hang.
  • Fixed an issue where manual activation would fail on certain machines.
  • Fixed an issue where the EspaceNet search engine would no longer return results.
  • Fixed an issue where IEEEXplore search engine results were incorrectly parsed.
  • Fixed an issue where DOI parsing would fail on certain BMC article webpages.
  • Fixed an issue with annotations on non-english windows installations.
  • Fixed a performance issue where loading CSL styles at startup would cause delays.
  • Fixed a performance issue where certain actions would load all CSL styles.
  • Fixed a performance issue with long keyword lists for an article.
  • Fixed a memory leak when closing a tab that is showing a webpage.
  • Fixed a crash while searching PDFs.
  • Fixed a crash related to PDF reading while opening and closing tabs.
  • Cleaned up the match article view.
  • Cleaned up the PDF contextual menu.
  • Added support for the notices services that allows the user to be warned upon certain events or about compatibility issues.
  • Added extra measures to prevent canceling the migration process.
  • Added the ability to reset entered dates in the inspector.
  • Added the ability for the File -> Open dialog to expand DOIs.
  • Added additional optional logging for diagnosing proxy issues.
  • Changed the add to collection behaviour to be consistent with the Mac version.
  • Deleting mutiple books from a collection now disables the PDF preview
  • Tested Papers on Windows 8
