Papers 3 Mac keeps 2 copies of your database: a local and shared. Sometimes, the shared copy is not corrupt even though the local copy is. This means we can resolve corruption by replacing your local database with the shared one. This is a Mac-only feature, and only works in instances where the shared database isn't also corrupt.

Back Up Your Current Databases

  • Close Papers and Citations, if it they are running
  • Open the Terminal.app. You will find this in Applications/Utilities, or from a spotlight search
  • Copy and paste the following command into Terminal exactly as is:

cp "${HOME}/Library/Application Support/$(defaults read com.mekentosj.papers3 mt_papers3_library_location_local)/Library.papers3/Database.papersdb" ~/Desktop/LocalDatabase.papersdb

  • Copy and paste the following command into Terminal exactly as is:

cp "$(defaults read com.mekentosj.papers3 mt_papers3_library_location_shared)/Library.papers3/Database.papersdb" ~/Desktop/SharedDatabase.papersdb
