ReadCube’s Word citation tool - SmartCite - is still in beta, which means it is still under development.
To try it out, please go to the Preferences section of the main ReadCube program and opt in as a beta tester in the SmartCite section.
Please note the limitations of the beta status and take the standard precautions, such as making frequent backups of your document files.
Known SmartCite Issues:
- speed/performance slowdown with large documents and/or large numbers of cited references (e.g. 50-100+)
- no built-in citation style editor and issues with some citation styles' output (please refer to this article about adding and editing CSL styles)
- occasional formatting issues with citations and/or the bibliography (e.g. spacing)
- the keyboard shortcuts may become unchecked and prevent SmartCite launch in Word
As an alternative, the main ReadCube program can easily export any number of references to Endnote or a .bib/.ris file for intercompatibility with other citation tools. For more information, please see the Library Export support article.
You can also directly copy formatted references from the ReadCube program, in the right panel under the Cite tab - as with SmartCite, more than 7000+ styles are available to pick from.
