Feature Requests

Have a great idea for a new feature we should include in the next version of ReadCube? Let us know here, on our Feature Request public forum.

If you see your idea listed here already, be sure to check the comments—we may have posted information or an update about the feature you desire!

It would be cool if ReadCube could...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

  1. search for articles among the recommendations feed

the idea being that while I have over 200 articles recommended based upon a certain library list over the last year, I would like to filter that to specifi key words or dates

  3. Exclude a list from recomendations search.

I needed 50 papers for my oral qualification exam. These articles have NOTHING to do with my current research. They are easy to put into their own list, and it would be nice if I could exclude that list from the papers used to generate my "recomendations"

  4. sort articles by resolution status

This functionality would allow the user to sort their library or a list by whether or not a pdf has been successfully resolved with a matching reference. A use case for example: grouping all unresolved entries together.

  7. (manage/edit) several pdf/files for the same article

So you can have noted versions, older versions, or be the one to choose which version should stay.

  8. always put the pop-up menu close to the cursor when done selecting text.

I highlight text more often than I copy it or add notes. The intent here is to make it less of a hassle to have to click after every text selection to get it to highlight.

To make this easier, the popup menu should show up at the top of the selection (as it currently does) only when text is selected from bottom to top. When text is selected from top to bottom, the pop up menu should show up at the bottom of the selection (right by the cursor).

Another additional change in this area that I would like…

  9. Draw a graph of the library

Draw a graph (like a bubble graph° of articles already download, references, read/unread articles.
That could allow to see where some group of article pointing or if there is isolated article.

  10. Have a list (folder) that can shows only the files which don't belong to any list yet (Not all of the files).

Assume you import a large amount of PDFs to your library (assume 100 PDFs). You try to categorize them in your seperate lists. You do it for 50 PDFs and decide to do the rest after a while. The problem is when you are going to continue, you don't know which PDFs are already categorized since you see all of your pdfs in Library List !

  11. have an "Add to" button to easily add articles to lists.

Making reading lists is a very useful feature of readcube. But it gets annoying when you have more lists (like 40 for instance) to add papers to lists. Currently, it is possible only to drag and drop an article to any list. If you have 30-40 lists and you have 5 papers opened in a session, it is impossible to drag it to the lists that are currently not displayed in the screen [as the list doesn't scroll automatically while dragging]. So, a simple "Add to" button on each article or in the right-click menu would be very handy.

  12. when I move a PDF to another folder the library reference will stay linked to the PDF

When I import PDFs into Readcube, the PDFs are linked to a library reference. But if I rearrange my physical PDFs into different folders, etc. the library reference is no longer linked to the physical PDF. It would be great if they could stay linked.

  15. add your own key words for searching later

I have several different projects, areas, ideas in my libraty, some overlap, many do not. It owuld be useful to be able to specify my own key words which may not appear in the articles.

  16. be more accessible to people with limited eyesight.

There doesn't seem to be a way to increase text or window size, which makes readcube unusable for some. It's very borderline for me, and my impairment is minimal.

  18. provide an option : hide/fold the "comments pages"

It would be better for those who does not have a wide screen.

  19. enable ReadCube's browser to be moved and/or minimized without closing

ReadCube's internal browser obscures most of the Readcube screen, and you cannot use the ReadCube library and browser at the same time (as soon as you click back on the library screen the browser closes). Allowing the library to be used without closing the browser woud be very useful.

  20. Opening in Readcube and adding to library with double click or right-click menu

Open a pdf file in Readcube when double-clicking on it, and then decide to add it to the library or not. I have pdf files on my computer and I can't open them in Readcube before I add them to the library.

Dragging pdf to Readcube is not my first reaction, double-click is.
