Feature Requests

Have a great idea for a new feature we should include in the next version of ReadCube? Let us know here, on our Feature Request public forum.

If you see your idea listed here already, be sure to check the comments—we may have posted information or an update about the feature you desire!

It would be cool if ReadCube could...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. correctly export bibtex files when searched with google scholar

bibtex export works fine for publications imported by pubmed search.
when imported by google scholar search, the author field contains a number of 'null's. probably simple bug fix.

  2. Roadmap

Please consider publishing a roadmap with upcoming features, like e.g. 'sync support in Q4 2013'.

    Thanks!

  4. delete multiple lists

It would be useful to be able to multi-select and delete lists; would be even better if I could do it using ctrl(or cmd)+delete!

  5. allow you to resize the left sidebar.

First of all, as a recent discoverer of ReadCube, I just want to say that the program is great and I cannot understand how I ever survived without it! One small thing - it would be great to be able to make the left "search" sidebar wider or narrower so that I can see more of the text that describes opne articles, to make it easier to skip between them. Is there already a way of doing this? Thanks.

  6. Allow non-unique names for sublists

Recently a nested sublist feature has been implemented, but it does not allow for a "true" nested structure. It can't be collapsed, and sublists must have unique names, even if they are put under a different parent list (e.g. you can create the list "clinical trials" under "****** cancer", but if then you try to create "clinical trials" under "colon cancer", the former will be erased. My proposition is to make sublists collapsible, and their names non-unique.

  7. preview pdf when searching my library

Similar to apple's finder, it would be nice to preview the pdf's when searching my library.

  8. Work without the user needing administrator rights on their computer

My university imposes many restrictions on the use of our work computers, meaning that I do not have admin rights. Those seem however to be needed for the operation of the software. Indeed, our technician says that Readcube needs access to the registry, which is not allowed to the standard user. It is therefore not possible for me to use Readcube at work.

  9. Let you enter notes directly on the page, as text or as a pop-up note.

The free-form note page that drops down is great, as are the notes on highlighting. However, some older/scanned pdf documents don't permit highlighting of the text - on these documents, it isn't possible to annotate specific regions. Having the ability to put a textbox or mouse-over pop-up note on specific regions of the text would be really great ('Foxit' has this functionality, for comparison).

  10. Please add dictionary to the readcube

The new update in readcube is amazing (sync feature). It would be helpful if readcube embeds a scientific dictionary in their software. It makes reading more fun.

    Thanks,
    Venkata

  12. Automatically download articles from reference data

When importing references or bibliographies, it would be great if readcube could automatically download the pdf and associated supporting information from the web without having to click on the 'download from web' button.

  14. Have seperate libraries for distinct programs

I have a few very different projects, and do not want the libraries combined, i.e. lists do not work well for what I would like to do. It would be very helpful to be able have independent libraries.

  15. maximize to a new desktop with the Mac desktop client

At present, the Mac desktop client only lets one maximize to the extent of the current desktop. It would be great if ReadCube could maximize to a new desktop just like many other applications.

  17. Match with citations on Google Scholar

Match with Google Scholar citations via readcube would be very useful. These currently do not get matched.

  18. display author and journal information in the "Open Articles" list.

If I'm doing a literature review, I often have 10-20 pdfs open at one time, and I tend to remember papers by first author rather than title. This means it gets difficult to remember which paper is which when you can only see title information in the open articles list. Could see author/year information also, so we can quickly identify and pull out a particular article from a long list?

  19. have the ability to make comments in mathematical notation

For people in technical fields making comments on papers often involves mathematical expressions. If readcube's comments could accomodate some kind of LATEX-style syntax that would produce mathematical notation, this would enhance readcube for users in many fields.

  20. always put the pop-up menu close to the cursor when done selecting text.

I highlight text more often than I copy it or add notes. The intent here is to make it less of a hassle to have to click after every text selection to get it to highlight.

To make this easier, the popup menu should show up at the top of the selection (as it currently does) only when text is selected from bottom to top. When text is selected from top to bottom, the pop up menu should show up at the bottom of the selection (right by the cursor).

Another additional change in this area that I would like…
